How Competitive is the Norton Anti-Spyware?
Spyware is a threat to computers and its users. It is a program acquired by clicking on websites in the Internet. They are programs that can risk the security of computers because they have the ability to gather confidential numbers like account numbers and other personal information.
Spyware programs can also cause great damage to computers because they attack not only the files but also the hardware making a computer useless once infected. They can also cause inconvenience because spyware programs have the ability to launch unwanted advertisement pop ups whenever online. Minimal damage may cause slowness of the computer, which may be a hassle to users.
The Symantec Corporation recently launched the newest version of Norton Internet Security that was designed to have built in anti-spyware features. The company offered this version as a free service to Internet users because spyware has been the biggest problem of many consumers and the anti-spyware is the best cure to this problem.
This new product that was launched by Norton has an anti-spyware software that is tied with the Norton Antivirus. This program has the ability to quarantine possible software the same way an antivirus does. The software has a dual purpose of removing virus and zapping spyware at the same time. No one would realize that spyware has been scanned on the computer once the program has been run on the computer.
It is recommended that the software should be run at least once a week to ensure the safety of the computer. However, this may not be necessary if the use of the Internet is not that frequent.
On the other hand, one disadvantage found on the software is that it took the longest to scan compared to the Microsoft AntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy and the Ad-Aware software. The scanning time for 29000 objects for the Norton Antispyware may take around 12 minutes, which is unable to compete with the Microsoft AntiSpyware that was proven to be the fastest.
In addition, the Norton Antispyware does not allow much user feedback when it comes to the scanning process. It does not list the amount of time needed to scan the objects and it is unable to categorize whether the objects are possible spyware or viruses. It may not be categorized as a user-friendly tool since it would still require the user to click on a tab to get more information regarding the objects that were quarantined.
It is incomparable to Ad-Aware when it comes to providing detailed information to users. No wonder why many people still uses the Ad-aware. Not only that it is faster, it also provides the user with enough information regarding quarantined files that were found in the computer.
It is expected that Norton would improve the quality and the features of the new version to allow support from many users. It would be very difficult for Norton to compete if the features and benefits it provides cannot beat what other providers provide. To be able to rank as number one, it should improve its speed and performance and allow easier navigation for its users.
Norton Internet Security may be a new member in the anti-spyware brands that will be offered in the market. It may not be categorized as the best but it sure is an available anti-spyware protection to many computers. It is still advised to try the leading brands but it would not harm to try Norton Antispyware. It is still better to use two programs to ensure that all unwanted spyware and viruses are totally removed from the computer.
